LYNDON FORESTRY BOARDTree nursery

Volunteers Needed

If you are interested in gardening and/or learning more about the care of trees or tree identification, volunteer to become a member of the Lyndon Forestry Board. We are currently seeking volunteers to help plant young trees in the nursery, keep the trees watered and weeded throughout the season, and work on a tree identification project in some of the City parks. Contact Lyndon City Hall (423-0932) for more information.

History

•2000 - Lyndon Forestry Board created to develop a policy to protect our curent trees and replace those trees we have lost in public areas, such as Robsion Park.

•Mark Timmons & Associates contracted as City foresters.

•2002 - City received grant from the Kentucky Division of Forestry to create a hazard tree inventory.

•Mark Timmons & Associates conduct hazard tree inventory with the assistance of the Lyndon Forestry Board in the common areas and right-of-ways within the City. This will allow us to maintain the hazard trees and prioritize those trees that need to be removed.

•2003 - City Nursery began by Lyndon Forestry Board, Mark Timmons & Associates, and Eagle Scout Troop 109. The nursery is located on Lyndon Lane near the pedestrian entrance to Robsion Park. The trees grown in the nursery will replace dead or diseased trees in Robsion Park and other areas belonging to the City.

•Tyler Bodi, an Eagle Scout candidate and resident of Lyndon, and his troop, built a fence to surround the nursery. Don Thomas, resident of Lyndon and member of the Forestry Board, tilled the area to prepare for planting trees.

•2004 - Approximately 250 trees (including Bald Cypress, Ash, and White Pines) were planted. As the nursery matures, we hope at some point to be able to give excess trees to residents.
