City of Lyndon Ethics Committee

Looking out for what’s fair, open, and right in our small city government.

What We’re Here For

The Ethics Committee exists to help ensure that everyone serving the City of Lyndon—whether elected, appointed, or employed—acts in a way that reflects the public trust.

We’re here to support good decision-making, promote transparency, and provide clear paths for raising or resolving concerns when ethical questions arise. Our role is not to judge beliefs or political differences, but to help ensure that city business is conducted fairly, openly, and without personal gain.

What the Committee Can Do

We are empowered to:

  • Offer guidance through advisory opinions when officials or employees are unsure about a potential ethics concern
  • Review and investigate formal complaints when someone believes a part of the ethics code has been violated
  • Ensure accountability for financial disclosures and conflict-of-interest rules
  • Recommend improvements to strengthen ethical governance
  • Support training and outreach to build a strong culture of integrity

Need Guidance? Ask for an Advisory Opinion

If you are a city official, employee, or board member and you’re unsure whether a future action might present an ethical conflict, you can request an advisory opinion from the Ethics Committee.

These opinions are:

  • Confidential (unless you choose to share them)
  • Non-punitive
  • Designed to help you avoid unintentional violations

How to request an advisory opinion:

Just send an email to [ethics.lyndon@gmail.com] with the following:

  • Your name and role (e.g., councilmember, employee)
  • A clear description of the situation or decision you’re considering
  • Any specific questions you’d like the committee to weigh in on

We’ll review your request and respond in writing, offering guidance to help you stay in line with the city’s ethics code.

Concerned About a Violation? File a Complaint

Ethical Government Starts with Trust

The Ethics Committee is committed to ensuring that everyone who serves on Lyndon—whether elected, appointed, or hired—does so with honesty, fairness, and respect. We believe that good governance starts with shared values and clear processes
